Aprilaire Coil Cleaning: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
Aprilaire coil cleaning in Las Vegas typically runs between $180 and $420 installed, depending on access and how much buildup has accumulated. We stock Aprilaire-compatible cleaning solutions and coil-cleaning equipment on our trucks, and in most cases we can schedule the job within 48 hours of your call. Most Las Vegas homeowners realize their Aprilaire coil needs attention when their AC stops cooling as effectively or the system starts cycling on and off more frequently than it used to.
The coils on your Aprilaire system (whether it’s part of the 5000 series filter housing or the 800 steam humidifier that works alongside your air handler) are doing heavy lifting in this climate. When they get coated with dust, pet dander, and fine desert particulate, your system loses efficiency fast. In Las Vegas, where the AC runs hard from April through October, a dirty coil can add $40 to $90 a month to your energy bill. That’s not an exaggeration, we measure it regularly on service calls.
Which Aprilaire Models This Applies To
This applies to Aprilaire HVAC equipment and integrated coil assemblies across several product lines. Most commonly in Las Vegas we service the Aprilaire 5000 electronic air cleaner (which sits directly upstream of the evaporator coil and catches whatever the coil would otherwise pull in), the 6000 series media air cleaners, and whole-home dehumidifiers like the E100 and E130, which use coils as part of their dehumidification process.
When you’re identifying what part you need, check the label on the equipment panel. It will list the model number and typically a date code. For the Aprilaire 5000, the coil assembly is part of the filter cabinet itself, and the measurement that matters is the overall cabinet depth, usually 6 or 7 inches depending on the series. For the E100/E130 dehumidifiers, the evaporator coil sits inside the unit, and we strongly recommend OEM Aprilaire components over aftermarket for these. The tolerances are tight, and aftermarket coils we’ve seen don’t always line up with the condensate pan properly. A mismatch there means water pooling where it shouldn’t, and in a Las Vegas attic in July, that becomes a mold problem within weeks.
One compatibility gotcha we run into regularly: the Aprilaire 5000 was sold in a 20×25 and a 16×25 cabinet size, and the coil dimensions differ by a few inches in each. If you’re ordering a part online, confirm your cabinet size before you buy. We also stock replacement coils and coil cleaning kits for Aprilaire models 2210, 2400, 3410, and 4400 on the truck, alongside parts we carry for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier systems.

Signs Your Aprilaire Coil Cleaning Is Failing
- Rising energy bills with no change in thermostat settings. A coated coil can’t transfer heat efficiently. Your compressor works harder to hit the same temperature, and the meter shows it. We see this pattern constantly in Clark County, and it usually points directly at coil condition before anything else.
- Weaker airflow from your vents. As the coil surface gets caked, the air moving across it meets resistance. You might notice some rooms are cooler than others, or the airflow just feels softer at the register than it did a year ago.
- The system short-cycles. When the coil can’t shed heat properly, refrigerant pressures climb and the compressor’s safety switch cuts it off prematurely. The system starts, runs for five or ten minutes, then shuts down. It’s probably not the compressor failing, it’s the coil telling it to stop.
- Visible dust or fibrous buildup on the coil fins. If you can see the coil through the access panel or filter opening and the fins look fuzzy or chalky, that’s enough to cost you real money in lost efficiency. In Las Vegas, fine alkaline dust from the desert combines with humidity from the AC to create a mineral crust on coil fins that plain water won’t remove.
- Ice forming on the coil or refrigerant lines. Reduced airflow from a dirty coil drops the coil temperature below freezing. Moisture in the air turns to ice. If you see frost or ice near the coil housing, shut the system down and call us at (725) 600-6597. Running it frozen can damage the compressor, and that is a much more expensive repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Las Vegas, a full Aprilaire coil cleaning on an accessible system runs $180 to $320. If the coil is buried in an attic or tucked into a closet with tight clearance, that pushes the range to $280 to $420. We clean coils with a commercial foaming agent that dissolves mineral scale and a fin comb to straighten bent fins after. We also check the condensate line while we’re there, because a clogged drain line often accompanies a dirty coil, and we’ll clear it if needed.
You get a written price before any work starts. That’s not a promise we make, it’s a rule. The price we hand you is the price we do the work for. If the coil cleaning reveals a bigger issue like a refrigerant leak or a corroded pan, we stop, show you photos of what we found, and give you a separate written quote before proceeding. The cleaning itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the coil isn’t cleaned properly or the airflow numbers don’t improve after we finish, we return and correct it at no charge, any time within a year.
DIY or Call Us?
You can do a visual inspection yourself. Pull the access panel (power off at the disconnect first) and look at the coil surface. If you see a thin layer of dust, changing your filter more frequently and keeping the area clean may be enough. If you see a crust or matted buildup, that’s beyond what a homeowner can safely remove.
Here’s where DIY goes wrong: using a pressure washer or a garden hose to blast the coil clean. The fins on an Aprilaire coil are thin aluminum, and 30 psi of water can fold them flat, permanently reducing airflow. We’ve repaired DIY attempts where the fins looked like someone ironed them. You also don’t want to use a wire brush, oven cleaner, or any acid-based cleaner not made specifically for evaporator coils. The coil cleaner we use is a non-corrosive formula designed for aluminum fins. If you’re unsure, call (725) 600-6597 and describe what you see. We’ll tell you straight whether it’s worth a service call.
FAQs
Every 12 to 24 months for most Las Vegas homes, and more often if you have pets or run the system year-round. The desert dust here is fine enough to pass through standard filters and coat coil fins in a single season. If your system sits near a construction site or you leave windows open often, check it sooner.
Most of the time, no. A coil is a single piece of copper tubing running through aluminum fins. Once the fins are corroded or the tubing leaks, cleaning won’t fix it. The coil gets replaced. But if the issue is strictly buildup, cleaning restores most coils to near-original efficiency without replacement. Call us at (725) 600-6597 for an honest assessment, and we’ll tell you which one you need.
Most Aprilaire coil cleanings take 45 minutes to two hours depending on access and how heavily the coil is coated. Attic jobs in Las Vegas during summer take longer because the space itself is hot, and we pace the work so the tech isn’t rushing or cutting corners.
We stock Aprilaire coil cleaning solutions, fin combs, and replacement coils for the most common Aprilaire models on the truck. If we need a less common part, we can usually source it from local Las Vegas supply houses within a day or two. Call (725) 600-6597 and we’ll check availability while you’re on the phone.
